The Camera And I Meet

I was born in New York City and attended Stuyvesant HS. The building was equipped with a traditional darkroom and because both my parents had cameras around the house, I attended a meeting of the photography club. Developing film was the first process I was exposed to that felt magical: mixing chemicals and watching images appear, I loved every minute of it. I commuted to the International Center of Photography after school to attend a Black and White photography class there and although the equipment has changed and I've explored many other creative techniques over the years since, my love for the camera and capturing interesting and unique moments continues.

Today, I merge my love of sculpture, painting, drawing and photography in my studio practice. All the techniques feed each other and allow me to bring layered experience behind the camera. It feels like a privilege and an honor when a person invites me to document the things that are important in their life. Though with all good things comes responsibility, and I will work diligently to provide you with images that tell a compelling story.

“Colleen did a very fun and relaxed family photo session with us. She really got down on my son’s level (he is pretty shy!) got him to relax, and took some of my favorite pictures of him playing very naturally. We’re not a big “photo session” kind of family and Colleen seemed to pick up on that and the photos don’t feel posed or staged. It was a pleasure to work with her!”
