Event And Business

When photographing people at events or for promotional purposes, I am mindful of this question: Is the subject aware that they are being photographed? If so, that awareness can affect how they appear in front of the camera. It seems to me, another job of the photographer is to help the subject feel at ease.

The photo, in some ways, is documenting the spontaneous relationship that has formed between photographer and subject. This doesn't always mean a gleaming smile, but I find that a relaxed subject helps me capture a sincerity of being which often helps when telling a compelling story. Combine those images with stealth like sniper photos of unaware subjects, and you have an honest depiction of the events that transpired.
